A pregnant Athens convenience store clerk killed late last year was stabbed 31 times, according to an indictment returned on Tuesday.

Police last month arrested a homeless couple, Shameeka Lashae Watson, 30, and Clarence McCord, 36, for the Dec. 30 stabbing death of Kejuan Charde Hall, a clerk at the Golden Pantry on Atlanta Highway.

The Athens Banner-Herald reported Wednesday that the pair were indicted Tuesday on 12 felony counts, including malice murder and feticide, in the 25-year-old clerk's death. Hall was eight weeks pregnant when she died.

According to the Banner-Herald's website, onlineathens.com, the indictment alleges that Watson and McCord,  who once worked at the store, held Hall against her will and stabbed her 31 times in the head, torso and arms.

The newspaper reported that a recently filed search warrant indicates that a customer came into the store during the incident and heard the violence in the back office of the store. One of the suspects, who was at the register posing as a store employee, explained the commotion by saying it was either two people arguing or having sex.

Watson and McCord were arrested Feb. 9 after police received a phone tip and tracked the couple to an apartment complex, where they were sleeping in a parked car. They are being held without bond in the Clarke County Jail.
