The Sandy Springs City Council has given the green light to a contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation for lighting the reconstructed intersection of Glenridge Drive and Roswell Road.

The Council authorized the mayor to execute a contract with GDOT covering 20 decorative pedestrian lights, to be paid for and installed by the state when it rebuilds the intersection. The project is to eliminate the hazardous angle at which Glenridge, a street that runs south of and parallel to I-285, now meets Roswell.

Sandy Springs would be responsible for maintenance, repairs and the cost of electricity. The city also would have to paint the poles every 10 years at a cost of roughly $24,000. If the city fails to hold up its end of the deal, it would owe the state the cost of the lights. The contract runs for 50 years.
