Sandy Springs has announced the hiring of a new city solicitor and changes at Sandy Springs Municipal Court.

The City Council approved a $304,000 flat-fee contract, effective June 1, with Donaho Law LLC as solicitor, or prosecutor, for the municipal court. The court hears violations of traffic laws, local ordinances and some state misdemeanors.

The new city solicitor, Leslie M. Donaho, is an accomplished attorney specializing in criminal law, the city said.

Donaho has served as assistant solicitor for Cherokee County and assistant district attorney for Paulding County and opened her criminal defense practice in 2016, according to her LinkedIn profile.

With the new solicitor, DUI prosecutions will remain in Sandy Springs rather than be transferred to Fulton County, the city said. The solicitor also will oversee a streamlined discovery process and work with police to implement a diversion treatment program, with alternatives to incarceration for mental health and substance abuse cases.
