With the results set to be certified on Friday at city hall, the election to fill the District 3 city council seat in Sandy Springs is headed for a June runoff.

A city spokeswoman said with almost 1,900 ballots counted, none of the five candidates running pulled a majority of the vote total plus one in Tuesday’s balloting. That means the voters will choose between the two top vote-getters — banker Chris Burnett and Joe Houseman, a pilot.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m to 7 p.m. June 21 at the Hammond Park Round Program Building, 6005 Glenridge Drive. Advance voting is set from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. June 13-17 at the same location. The election was called after former District 3 City Councilman Graham McDonald resigned to run for a Georgia House seat.
