Roswell City Council members got a first look at the proposed 2016 fiscal year budget at Monday night’s meeting.
Staffers took the wraps off of a proposed $68.5 million general fund budget to fund most city services, up from $63.4 million for fiscal 2015. The overall budget, including all funds, is projecting $119.8 million in revenues, with $7.2 million coming from reserves, and expenses totaling $119.4 million.
The budget includes a number of new initiatives, including nine new full time employees, four of them police officers and one a police supervisor, $50, 000 in salary upgrdes for communications officers and $175,000 in funding for the Roswell Arts Commission. It projects a $1.4 million increase in sales tax revenue and a $2.3 million hike in property tax revenues.
City officials said they’re shooting for approval of the budge by the end of May. The new fiscal year begins July 1.
