The Roswell City Council has approved a five-year parks and recreation master plan that calls for executing the Roswell River Parks Master Plan with parking, revenue-generating amenities and connecting the trail system to downtown.

The plan, developed by Clemson University under contract with Roswell for the Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs Department, also calls for connecting the parks, neighborhoods, the river and schools with pedestrian-friendly streets and trails.

To address the community’s aquatic needs, the plan proposes partnering with neighboring cities to help meet the cost of constructing a new facility. It recommends expanding the gymnastics program by renovating current facilities or building a new one.

Secondary priorities go toward installing public art; creating additional space for art, music and film classes; and consolidating historic resource efforts into “an organized and coherent group with a direct link to the city of Roswell,” according to the plan.

The city should create a prioritized list of facility upgrades, seek additional open space, and expand programming east of Ga. 400, the plan says.
