Mike Easterwood, a business owner unofficially representing the 60-acre, 54-property commercial district called Rio Circle, reiterated his group still wants to be annexed into Decatur.

“Decatur’s been successful in inviting development, while Avondale [Estates] thumbs its nose at development,” he said although admitting taxes would be higher in Decatur.

But Rio remains on Avondale’s wish list annexation map.

Decatur Mayor Jim Baskett said Tuesday he plans on respecting that. “It’s not just that it’s the right thing to do,” Baskett said. “But legislators are telling us they don’t want conflicting maps. They don’t want to have to make a choice.”
