A Whitfield County man won $221,000 in the Georgia Lottery Fantasy 5 drawing.

James Holmes, 68, went to the Kangaroo Express convenience store in Ringgold to check his ticket. Holmes, of Tunnel Hill, said he started clutching the ticket when he realized he had won.

“I told my girlfriend, ‘Baby, I won, I won, I won,’” he said.

Holmes said he wants to buy a new car. However, the retired self-described jack-of-all-trades said he will use the money to pay bills and take a vacation first.

Georgia Lottery retailers that sell winning Fantasy 5 tickets receive a bonus of $2,000. That amount increases by $2,000 each time there is no winner and the game rolls. The Kangaroo Express will get a $6,000 incentive bonus from selling the winning ticket to Holmes.
