The health score of Eastern China Taste in Suwanee dropped from a solid A to failing because of a number of code violations, including not protecting raw shrimp and other foods from contamination.

One pan of raw shrimp was thawing in standing water on one dish sink drainboard, and another pan of raw shrimp was thawing at room temperature on the other dish sink drainboard.

In addition, the sink was still being used to store dirty dishes and was soiled with food debris, the Gwinnett County health inspector said.

The shrimp were put into clean containers and moved into the cooler to continue thawing.

Eastern China Taste, 1000 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., Suwanee, scored 65/U. Previous scores were 95/A and 96/A.

Among other food items left unprotected, raw chicken was being prepped on a table next to ready-to-eat foods. And some foods were uncovered or loosely covered and at risk of contamination. Unwrapped raw beef was stored touching an open bag of raw shrimp in the walk-in cooler, according to the inspection report.

Broken food containers — some held together with duct tape — were observed in use and stored clean. Some containers had residue left on them from old stickers.

Food debris and a sponge were inside a prep sink designated for washing fruits and vegetables only.

Employee food and drinks were stored on the prep table, and personal items were stored above customer items throughout the facility. The facility and some of the equipment also needed cleaning and some repairs, the inspector said.

Eastern China Taste will be re-inspected.
