Cabarrus County deputies in North Carolina posted that they're searching for Derek Helms, 28, who has outstanding warrants accusing him of first-degree kidnapping and second-degree rape.

A person who appeared to be Helms commented on the post by saying he is innocent and will be vindicated.

The Sheriff's Office replied, telling Helms to turn himself in.

“I think that he should. I doubt that he will, but I think that he should,” a resident said.

Helms may be driving a gray or silver 2005 Mercedes, and police are worried he may have left the state.

That might not be the case. He publicly posted he was watching fireworks in Oakboro, North Carolina, on the Fourth of July.

Many Concord residents are on edge knowing someone accused of serious crimes is not in custody.
