A 45-day rabies alert has been issued for a one-mile area around the 1000 block of Crumbley Road in McDonough.

Henry County Animal Control got a call July 30 that a raccoon was killed by two dogs, and later tests on the raccoon’s remains came back positive for the rabies virus.

Residents living within this area should make sure that all of their companion animals have a current rabies vaccination, and if not must do so as soon as possible.

Additionally, residents should be vigilant of the behavior of not only their own pets, but also of surrounding wildlife (e.g. foxes, skunks and raccoons) that are acting in an unusual manner.
