Atlanta BeltLine Inc. and the City of Atlanta Department of City Planning will hold a Southwest Study Group meeting to discuss two Master Planning updates – Atlanta BeltLine Subarea 1 and the West End Livable Centers Initiative, according to a press release.

This meeting is open to all of the public but is focused on the Southwest Study Group area. The Southwest Study Group includes residents of the Westview, West End, Adair Park, Pittsburgh, Mechanicsville, Oakland City, Bush Mountain, and Cascade Avenue neighborhoods along the Atlanta BeltLine. The Subarea 1 geography includes the West End LCI area and several of the neighborhoods referenced above.

The meeting will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at the West End Family Life & Community Center, 1191 Donnelly Ave. SW. This location is accessible via MARTA bus No. 68 and No. 81.

In 2007, master planning began by looking at the ½ mile on either side of the Atlanta BeltLine corridor to create a framework to support future growth and transit in the corridor. There are 10 distinct subarea master plans for the Atlanta BeltLine and they are subject to periodic review and adoption by City Council.

The Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Centers Initiative program incentivizes jurisdictions to re-envision communities as vibrant, walkable places that support mobility options, healthy lifestyles, and improved access to jobs, services, and housing.

This is the first in a series of meetings seeking input to update both Master Plans. We will evaluate the original plan recommendations and examine existing conditions. The planning process will include four public meetings and meetings with the affected Neighborhood Planning Units and ultimately City Council approval.
