The State Road and Tollway Authority recently launched a new Ride Transit- Earn Toll Credits pilot program, in partnership with the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority and Gwinnett County Transit. By trying transit, I-85 commuters in northeast Metro Atlanta can earn $2 in toll credits per transit trip, up to $10 per month, earning a maximum of $60 over a 6-month period. To participate in the pilot, commuters must have a Peach Pass tied to a personal toll account and an Xpress Pass or a MARTA Breeze card and visit the Peach Pass website to sign up.
To be eligible, an Xpress pass or Breeze card must be used for fare payment on these routes. Those using the GCT routes can pay using a Breeze card to participate in the program.
The Ride Transit-Earn Toll Credits pilot project is one of three new pilot programs initiated by SRTA and GRTA to help offset the higher costs of tolls driven by continued high usage of the I-85 Express Lanes. In addition to this new transit pilot, SRTA has also reached out to hundreds of frequent rush hour, I-85 Express Lanes users and offered toll credits for shifting their commute either earlier or later in the peak period. Later this spring, SRTA will announce a partnership with Georgia Commute Options to provide additional incentives to new carpoolers in the I-85 corridor.
