The Powder Springs City Council voted to adopt an updated downtown redevelopment plan that will include the Lewis Road corridor.

Similar to the downtown areas of Duluth or Suwanee, that plan would involve developing a larger downtown park near the city’s new roundabout. The plan may include an amphitheater and a spray pad.

City officials hope to attract restaurants and retail surrounding the park over the next few years, but would oppose any tax increases for the improvements.

Councilwoman Cheryl Sarvis said she also would oppose long-term bonds, until the city’s other bonds are paid, in favor of using SPLOST revenues, grants or revenues from selling city property.
