Update: The restaurant and market passed its follow-up health inspection, according to restaurant manager Andrea Augello, who contacted The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday.
A highly-rated Dunwoody Italian eatery and market failed its routine health inspection Monday after a county inspector observed raw egg shells stored near ready-to-eat foods, among other violations.
East 48th Street Market at 2462 Jett Ferry Road in Dunwoody received a 65/U on the inspection, according to a Georgia Department of Public Health report. It had scored 95/A and 84/B on its previous inspections in 2015.
The inspector noted dishes were dirty even after washing, food improperly cooled and incorrectly date-marked.
There was also food stored on the floor of the restaurant's walk-in cooler.
"We've been in business for 30 years and scored a 95 last time," restaurant manager Andrea Augello told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "So, we've done something right."
Augello said she wants to play fair, but said the new inspector came in Monday with new procedures she and her employees didn't know about.
Since the restaurant had been rated highly the previous year, the inspector told Augello that she would send someone over to go over the new procedures so everyone's on the same page.
"What's ironic is we've been calling her all week and no one's getting back to us," she said.
On Friday, Aug. 19, Augello heard back from the department with a scheduled class next Monday.
The restaurant, which serves and sells "Italian specialty foods," will have its follow-up inspection on Monday, Aug. 29.
