A man who Alpharetta police say is wanted by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency was arrested in the north Fulton County city early Thursday morning after he led officers on a chase into an apartment complex.

Ely G. Araujo, 38, is being held in a Fulton County jail and is facing charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, obstruction of law enforcement officers, aggravated assault against a peace officer and several other traffic violations.

A 47-second long dash cam video posted to the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety Facebook page shows police following a large white van with ladders and cones attached to the roof. Police say Araujo was driving the van, and the chase began after he failed to pull over for a traffic stop.

Police did not say what they were initially pulling him over for.

About 15 seconds into the video, Araujo uses a key card to enter a gated apartment complex. As he driving through the gate, a patrol car attempted to cut him off. Araujo rammed the front end of the car making it turn so he could speed away.

Officers eventually caught up to the van and arrested Araujo. No one was injured, police say.

Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon said he did not know why Araujo is wanted by ICE.
