The Peachtree Corners City Council recently approved updates to three existing ordinances based on recommendations from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division during their annual review of the city’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Permit.
Updates were made to the Stream Buffer Protection Ordinance. This ordinance works to minimize public and private losses due to erosion, siltation and water pollution, and to maintain stream water quality by creating buffer zones and minimizing land development within those zones.
The second ordinance revision concerns Floodplain Management/Flood Damage Prevention. The purpose of this ordinance is to minimize public and private losses due to flood conditions in flood hazard areas, as well as to protect the beneficial uses of floodplain areas for water quality protection, stream bank and stream corridor protection, wetlands preservation and ecological and environmental protection.
The third ordinance revisions affect the Soil Erosion, Sedimentation and Pollution Control Ordinance. This ordinance provides guidelines related to excessive soil erosion and resulting sedimentation that can take place during land-disturbing activities.
