Peachtree Corners resident Richard Healy joined the city's council meeting earlier this week to formally request a study to determine how many people might use a proposed bridge to cross Peachtree Parkway between the Forum shopping center and future Town Center.
According to documents filed with the city, along with the names of more than 500 nearby residents, they "request the mayor and council stop all decisions on the bridge until the Town Center is completed and a comprehensive study of pedestrian traffic can be done."
The document further asks the city to consider alternatives to the estimated $5 million to $10 million for an “iconic and remarkable” bridge including a tunnel or enhanced crosswalk.
Peachtree Corners officials have previously stated a tunnel is problematic due to a nearby creek. Concerns for an enhanced crosswalk include an estimated increase of 50,000 vehicles over the next five years are anticipated to join the daily 45,000 that travel Peachtree Parkway currently.
