In response to numerous inquiries about the use of backyard fire pits during this prolonged drought, the Peachtree City Fire Department is asking residents to use extreme caution. Fire pits and fireplaces are not covered under the current outdoor burning ban, but the city strongly recommends using screens to contain embers, not placing fire pits on any combustible material such as wooden decks or near pine straw, keeping a garden hose nearby and not leaving any fire unattended. All fires should be extinguished by soaking them until they are cool to the touch with no embers burning.
