The Norcross City Council voted Monday to convert Wingo Street between Jones Street and Rakestraw Street to one-way traffic. The Department of Public Works Utilities and Parks proposed the change as a solution for unsafe and cut-through driving conditions observed on Wingo Street.

The city had looked at converting both Wingo and Born Streets to one-way traffic, but input from Gwinnett County Public Schools discouraged a change to Born Street. According to documents filed by GCPS Director of Transportation Donald Moore, Gwinnett Public Schools has over 24 buses traveling from Lawrenceville Street down Born Street to get to Norcross Elementary School’s bus lane twice a day.

Converting Born Street to one-way traffic would increase the safety risk to special needs students that load and unload on Born Street as well as increase cost and ride time to students at Norcross Elementary.
