The Norcross City Council recently passed an amendment to the city charter regarding conflicts of interest for appointed members of any board, commission or authority in the city.

The change will allow volunteers to continue in their appointed positions as non-voting members after qualifying as a candidate for nomination or election to public office in Norcross. If elected, the appointed board member will then be required to resign. If not elected, the individual can continue serving in the appointed position as a voting member.

Prior to this change, anyone that qualified to run for a city council seat in Norcross had to resign from serving on any Norcross city boards, commissions or authorities. If the individual’s quest for a city council seat was unsuccessful then they may not have been able to re-join the board since their seat may have been filled in their absence.
