Norcross officials are inviting citizens to attend a community workshop on the 2040 Comprehensive Plan and new Unified Development Ordinance 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center, 10 College St. Those unable to attend the workshop may drop-in to view plans between 4 and 6 p.m. the same day.

The Comprehensive Plan will help Norcross plan for the next 20 years and outline a strategy to get there. It serves as a policy guide for capital investment decisions, rezoning properties, and day-to-day decisions for city staff and elected officials, making sure the city is moving in a direction that fits with the community’s vision.

The Unified Development Ordinance is a regulatory tool for implementing the vision established by the Comprehensive Plan. It is a new, more comprehensive type of ordinance that will combine several sets of existing ordinances into one unified document. The current zoning ordinance, development regulations, and other regulations will be folded into the UDO and updated to improve their legibility, reflect best practices, and encourage sustainability. The updated ordinance will eliminate inconsistencies in the code and streamline the development approvals process by using a single, clear set of required permits, processes, language, and definition.
