The Publix anchoring the new Jonquil shopping center in Smyrna is slated to open before the end of the year.

The expected opening date is Dec. 14, according to the developer, Halpern Enterprises.

The store is expected to bring more than 100 jobs to the area.

Jack Halpern, chairman of Halpern Enterprises, updated the Smyrna Area Council at a meeting last week on Jonquil.

He also spoke about the company's other Smyrna property, Belmont — a 48-acre mixed-use development, opened earlier this fall.

Jonquil's 45,600-square-foot grocery store and pharmacy will be located on the northwest corner of Atlanta and Spring roads. The developer estimates that the intersection sees nearly 46,000 vehicles a day

Word of the new Publix first came in May, and was initially projected to open in spring of 2017.
