The city of Morrow wants boardwalks put in a few years ago as part of its pedestrian path system construction to be rebuilt with a better design.
The city said the boardwalks “have suffered an unreasonable amount of damage and rot since the system was constructed in 2011.” It is awaiting proposals, due 2 p.m. Aug. 7 at Morrow City Hall, on preliminary engineering services for a design to rebuild existing Jester’s Creek Path System wooden boardwalks.
In certain wet areas, the boardwalks are rotting. As a result, there are multiple spots that are now covered with plywood patches, as well as sections of standing water which speeds the rot process. There is also a length of boardwalk that has not yet fallen into disrepair.
The city wants to rebuild the boardwalks so they are not so vulnerable to weather conditions and don’t allow for standing water after rain, among other requirements.
The pedestrian path system has been built in multiple phases. It is mostly made up of a 12-foot wide concrete path along Jester’s Creek, with iron bridges and the wooden boardwalks.
