Eastbound motorists will have to detour off Mayfield Road in the Crabapple area of Milton starting Dec. 11 as the city and Georgia Department of Transportation begin a three-month project to install sidewalks on both sides of the street.

“Our goal is to complete the project as quickly as possible to minimize any inconvenience to our residents,” the city said in announcing the project. “To minimize delays with lane closures, a detour is planned for the eastbound direction of Mayfield Road between Mid Broadwell Road and Charlotte Drive.”

The detour will be in place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays beginning Dec. 11 and ending in early March, when contractor Excellere Construction LLC is expected to finish the job.

Eastbound traffic will detour right on Mid Broadwell and left on Charlotte back to Mayfield. Mayfield will be reduced to a single lane between Mid Broadwell and Charlotte during the detour, and only westbound traffic will be permitted. Information: http://bit.ly/2iCZl7C
