Testimony is expected to begin Wednesday in the second murder trial of Roy McKinney in Fulton County Superior Court. McKinney was convicted in 2005 of murdering his wife, Shaquilla Weatherspoon. That verdict was thrown out because the transcript of the trial record disappeared, which entitled McKinney to a new trial in the largely circumstantial case because no record existed for an appeal.
Court reporter Peggy Malcolm said she left the trial record in an evidence locker when she retired and contended other staff lost it.

The University of Georgia announced Tuesday it will demolish Rutherford Hall after the spring semester. The decision was made over the pleas of preservation groups that advocated to save the dorm built in 1939 by the federal Public Works Administration.
The hall's deterioration makes tearing it down the best financial option, officials said. The college will build a new 260-resident dorm.
"I value greatly the historical character of this campus and we have worked very hard to preserve many of the older structures on campus," President Michael Adams said. "But this decision ultimately was made in the interest of providing safe and functional housing for the next 75 years and a new structure on that site is the best option for achieving that goal."

Georgia women who are eligible for Medicaid and WIC -- a supplemental nutrition program for women, children and infants -- are invited to attend a health event on Sept. 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mall West End in Atlanta.
The event will include health screenings, seminars and workshops. Topics will include breast feeding, food stamps and planning for healthy babies. The mall is located at 850 Oak Street SW. It's sponsored by Georgia Families and care management organizations Amerigroup, Peach State Health Plan and WellCare.
