The McDonough City Council declined to reconsider a Nov. 5 vote to spend more than $300,000 on land for the expansion of Alexander Park. Citizens came out en masse to the Nov. 16 regular council meeting to protest the vote, taken at the Nov. 5 workshop meeting after the agenda was amended. Conflict-of-interest charges have been raised as the land in question is adjacent to a house owned by council member Gail Notti, who lost her re-election bid two days earlier. The vote was 4-3, and a move to reconsider could only happen is one of those who initially voted in favor made a motion to do so. Some citizens in opposition to the move have promised to file ethics charges over the matter.
