The purchase of two SMC 5000 Mast Mini Message Centers, which are portable digital message boards, was approved at the Oct. 15 regular meeting of the McDonough City Council.
The cost for the devices is $12,100 each. One will be paid for from the city’s water distribution budget and the other from the stormwater budget. The devices will be used for various purposes such as communicating road detours and road closures as well as for annual events such as the Geranium Festival. City officials stated that this equipment is required by the Georgia Department of Transportation when work is being done on state highways.
The message boards are the same models purchased by the city last year and will be used by the police and all public works departments.
