The Marietta Police Department is training the city’s school teachers in what they can do during active-shooter incidents - even though they are not harmed with weapons.
Officer Brittany Wallace said the training began last week and will continue over the next several weeks by the department’s Community Outreach Unit.
The unit hosts the training after hours in the schools for teachers to ask questions, voice their concerns to the police department about these possible situations and better understand the roles they can play to be of the most assistance.
“Although teachers are not armed, they are still very capable of taking action to protect their fellow staff members and students,” Wallace said.
