The Marietta Police Department will conduct a free seminar next month to help the public better respond to terrorism.

“Although there is no active threat to the Marietta community the police department is aware of the growing concerns with safety,” said Public Information Officer Brittany Wallace.

The “Citizen Response to Active Shooter Events” (CRASE) seminar will be 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Marietta Performing Arts Center, Marietta High School, 1171 Whitlock Ave.

Those interested should register with their email, containing their name, phone number and number of those attending, to Wallace at Kwallace@mariettaga.gov.

Participants will receive instruction on how to prepare for and respond to being trapped inside a building during an active shooter event.

Several simple steps will be explained that can assist law enforcement response and limit the number of potential victims accessible to a shooter.

Note: this presentation will include some videos and audio recordings from actual events that, even while edited, may be difficult for some people to watch or hear.

The Marietta Police Department terrorism pamphlet is available to download.

UPDATE: The Marietta police announced the seminar after the Paris attacks in November and sent out a reminder after the San Bernardino mass shooting in December.
