Marietta has received one of 11 study grants for $100,000 from the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Centers Initiative. The grants will help the city develop plans and policies to create “more vibrant, walkable and connected places,” said city official Courtney Verdier.

Once the studies are complete, Marietta will become eligible to receive funding for transportation projects such as sidewalks and intersection improvements. With the grant, Marietta will examine redevelopment opportunities for housing and commercial development throughout the study area and assess the impact of developments that have taken place since the original LCI plan was developed in 2001.

Impacts to the local economy and to existing planned infrastructure also will be examined as well as opportunities to improve sidewalk connectivity and other transportation networks.
