Police in Charlotte, North Carolina, arrested a man accused of fatally shooting a man outside a hotel amid protests against police violence, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Chief Kerr Putney said Friday at a news conference.

Rayquan Borum was apprehended around 7 a.m. Friday by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, Putney said.

Police confirmed Thursday that 26-year-old Justin Carr died of his injuries one day after he was shot at the Omni Hotel in uptown.

Officers were called around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 100 block of East Trade Street and found Carr, who had been shot.

The crowd was so dense that SWAT team members had to evacuate him to an ambulance. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition.

Protests broke out in Charlotte in the wake of the fatal police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, 43.

Protesters on Thursday night called on police to release dashcam video of the confrontation, although Putney has said that he does not anticipate releasing the video.
