Man killed at Gwinnett motel identified

Gwinnett County police Saturday evening identified the man shot and killed earlier in the day at an extended stay motel as 50-year-old Vincent Newsome.

Police said Newsome lived at the InTown Suites in the 4100block of U.S. 78 near Snellville, where the shooting happened shortly before 1 p.m.

Gwinnett police Sgt. Brian Doan said witnesses told them Newsome was washing a vehicle in the parking lot before the shooting.

“He then went upstairs and was on his way back to the parking lot when he was confronted by the suspect on the second-floor breezeway,” Doan said in an e-mail.

He said multiple shots were fired, and Newsome was struck. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he later died.

“There are no known suspects at this time,” Doan said shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday.
