Man indicted in two-county kidnap case

A Canton man has been indicted on kidnapping, aggravated assault, rape and other charges in connection with a March 29, 2014 case which spanned two counties.

Chancey Earl Droney is accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in Cherokee County, then driving her to a motel in Adairsville, where she escaped. In addition to the Cherokee indictment, he is being prosecuted on similar charges in Bartow County.

Droney is scheduled for arraignment on the Cherokee charges on March 12, said District Attorney Shannon Wallace.
