The Lawrenceville City Council voted recently to approve a police department request to purchase additional data mining of driver’s license data from six states outside Georgia. The $7,500 purchase from Zuercher Technologies, with an additional $1,313 added to existing service contracts will be paid for with federal asset forfeiture funds.

The request is the result of research Lawrenceville police conducted earlier this year to determine which states are encountered most often. After reviewing the data, it was determined that Alabama, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee are the top five outside of Georgia. Having the ability to add these states to the city’s data import will decrease the time to complete a traffic stop and increase officer safety by reducing their down time.
