The Lawrenceville City Council voted Monday to postpone a decision on a proposed crematorium and funeral home at 288 Hurricane Shoals Road. The proposed facility on 1.5 acres near Highway 316 is currently zoned as a General Business District and is not adjacent to any residentially zoned property.
The strip mall structure is currently used by a church and a personal training fitness center. The proposal plans for two suites at the north end of the center to be used as office, chapel, viewing and sales area while the suite at the south end of the building will house embalming and cremation services.
The city council will hold a second reading and vote on the request at the April 8 meeting.
