A sewer upgrade was approved Jan. 9 by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners for the Pinetree Country Club area and parts of the Kennesaw State University campus.

A contract for $1,914,658 was awarded to RDJE Inc. for the Pinetree-KSU Outfall Sewer Upgrade.

Both areas are served by 10-inch and 12-inch sanitary sewers that are undersized and approaching maximum capacity, according to Stephen D. McCullers, director of the Cobb County Water System, in a Jan. 9 memo to Cobb County Manager Rob Hosack.

The existing sewers will be replaced with about 5,700 linear feet of 16-inch and 18-inch sewers.

Around 2,200 linear feet of the 10-inch sewer will be increased to 16 inches by a pipe-bursting method to avoid extensive trenching within the pavement on Campus Loop Road.

The remaining 16-inch and 18-inch sewers will be installed by the open-cut method.
