The furnace may be acting up, but the fiery speeches by civil rights hero Martin Luther King Jr. are still warming visitors to one of Atlanta's most famed attractions.

Steve Klein, spokesman for The King Center in Atlanta, said the furnace that heats Freedom Hall is being repaired and hopes it will be working soon.

"It's not unbearable," said Klein, who said attendance does not seem to be affected by the cold. "There seems to be about the same number of visitors here today as usual on a winter day."

Klein said workers are using space heaters to warm the center, located in downtown Atlanta. Klein was not sure when the heater quit working, but said Wednesday it was very recently.

The furnace was still not working Thursday morning, said Klein.

Freedom Hall is one of the oldest buildings at The Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change. It houses a gift shop, educational material such as books and videos, a 250-seat auditorium and three exhibit rooms featuring the lives of Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife Coretta Scott King, Rosa Parks and Gandhi.
