Johns Creek city officials said crews have passed the halfway point in repaving a roster of subdivisions this year, with 18 neighborhoods finished out of 34 whose streets are — or will be — getting a makeover.

The city is spending roughly $5.8 million on the effort in this first year of a multi-year repaving initiative. City officials said the work is necessary because the city inherited a street network badly in need of upgrading when it incorporated in 2006. After improving major roads, crews are now tackling subdivisions. They’re following a prioritized plan developed by public works officials.
