Johns Creek has put out the call for docent volunteers for the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center.

A docent information seminar for interested persons is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25. The heritage curator and current docents will introduce prospects to Autrey Mill’s preservation efforts and its collections, grounds and buildings. The facility is at 9770 Autrey Mill Road, Johns Creek.

"We are seeking those who love the art of story-telling and enjoy meeting new people," according to the Autrey Mill website. "Docents have the opportunity to interact with diverse audiences, age groups and learning styles."

Through training by lectures, suggested readings and walking tours, volunteers will learn about local history, particularly agrarian life of the mid-1800s as represented by the Autrey Mill historic village and artifacts in its collection. Docents will engage with visitors, answer questions and share knowledge.
