The Johns Creek City Council has given the go-ahead for the purchase of about 58 acres of future parkland along the Chattahoochee River.

The total purchase price is about $9 million, according to a city announcement. The Trust for Public Land will contribute $850,000 without deed restrictions, for a net price of roughly $8.2 million or $141,379 per acre.

The mostly wooded site known as Quail Hollow is between the city’s recently acquired Cauley Creek property and the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. The purchase is expected to close in the next few months.

“I am very excited about this land purchase and the increased recreational and open space opportunity it provides to our residents,” said Mayor Mike Bodker.

The public will have a say in how the land is used, officials say, possibly with a master plan incorporating Quail Hollow and Cauley Creek as a unified property. The acquisition also means the city can advance plans for a multi-use trail system along the Chattahoochee.

With six land acquisitions total, including five in the last two years, Johns Creek has more than doubled its available parkland to approximately 360 acres, officials said.
