Update:
Aachi's Indian Cuisine scored a 92/A during its re-inspection Wednesday. The inspector noted that a handwashing sink did not have hot water.
Original (published Sept. 29, 2017):
An Indian restaurant in Cobb County failed a recent health inspection after issues with handwashing and moldy food.
Aachi's Indian Cuisine, at 2590 Spring Road in Smyrna, scored a 57/U on its Sept. 21 inspection. Any score below a 70 is considered failing.
An inspector saw employees handle dirty dishes without washing their hands before touching clean dishes. There was no soap nor disposable towels at a sink.
The dishwashing machine didn’t have any chlorine, which is used to sanitize dishes. Dust and grease was found accumulated in the hood filter, and some vegetables and rice on the buffet weren’t warm enough.
Another reason for the failure was “mold growth on cut potatoes,” noted in the report.
“These are basic things,” said Kali Karuppiah, who is in the process of becoming manager after the previous manager was fired for the failed inspection.
He said all of the issues were fixed the next day and he was looking forward to the inspector coming back to clear the eatery of the failing score.
There are no previous inspection scores listed in the Cobb health department's online database, and the restaurant's Facebook page says it was created June 1.
Follow-up inspections are usually done within 10 days of the original evaluation.
