The Henry County School System’s School Nutrition Department received its second consecutive Platinum Level Golden Radish Award during a recent ceremony at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

A total of 90 schools were recognized at the event hosted by Georgia Organics, the UGA Cooperative Extension, and the Georgia Departments of Education, Agriculture, Public Health, and the Department of Early Care and Learning. The awards recognize school districts incorporating farm-to-school principles into their school environment. Henry County was one of only 22 schools earning platinum status. The department, with more than 300 employees, serves more than 30,000 meals per day on average, including breakfast and lunch combined.

During the 2018-19 school year, the department served 1.7 million breakfast trays and 3.6 million lunch trays to those eating in the cafeteria.
