Former Georgia Gov. Carl Sanders made one last trip to the Capitol on Wednesday morning when a procession carrying his body stopped at the statehouse on its way to his native Augusta for a private burial.

The 89-year-old Sanders, who served from 1963 to 1967 as Georgia's 74th governor, died Sunday. Read obituary here.

Sanders was chairman emeritus of Troutman Sanders LLP. The law firm, which was started by Sanders and two partners in 1967, employs more than 600 attorneys in offices from Atlanta to Hong Kong.

A memorial service for Sanders will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church in Atlanta.
