Gwinnett Commissioners agreed Dec. 15 to an agreement between the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Department of Homeland Security. The agreement awards the Gwinnett Police Department Hazardous Device Unit with a grant for a $115,000.

The funds will be used by GEMA to purchase equipment for the Gwinnett County Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives Team. Plans include the purchase of one Thermo Scientific Gemini Analyzer and three Thermo Scientific MultiRAE Meters.

The Gemini Analyzer is used to identify explosives and chemicals in the field allowing first responders to minimize decision-making time and confidently make life-saving decisions. MultiRAE Meters are portable meters used to detect various gas and chemical substances.
