South Carolina Emergency Management Division has formally requested assistance from Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security to assist with the response to historic flooding that has killed 19 people and left more than 250 roads closed and at least 100 bridges damaged.

SCEMD has requested help with the initial review of homes and public infrastructure to begin the process of assessing the damage and prioritizing the cleanup. Gwinnett sent two code enforcement officers on Oct. 8 to assist South Carolina authorities in this effort. The officers will be deployed for 16-days to conduct damage assessments. The officers have previously received training in the areas of preliminary damage assessment, incident command system, traffic direction and control, and the National Incident Management System.
