A public hearing on proposed changes in the Forsyth County tree protection and replacement ordinance has been set for 5 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Forsyth County Administration Building, 110 E Main St., Cumming, during the Board of Commissioners meeting.

Proposed revisions include a requirement that each single family residential lot contain a minimum of two trees, one of which must be in the front yard. Trees must be a minimum 2-inch caliper size and a hardwood species. Either existing or replacement trees can be utilized.

The proposed changes also redefine a tree‘s critical root zone, spelling out the area under a tree which must be left undisturbed to give it a reasonable survival chance. The ordinance encompasses the county’s unincorporated areas.
