Forsyth seeks school change input

Forsyth County Schools officials are seeking public input on the first draft of a redistricting plan for schools, following Board of Education approval late last week. Online feedback closes on Monday.

The reason for the shift of attendance lines for the 2016-17 school year is twofold: to relieve overcrowding at existing schools and to populate Brandywine elementary and DeSana middle schools. Both are scheduled to open in the fall of 2016.

The plan shifts boundaries for Big Creek, Daves Creek, Haw Creek. Mashburn, Midway, Shiloh Point and Vickery Creek elementary schools, as well as Piney Grove, South Forsyth and Vickery Creek middle schools. There are no plans to shift high school lines for 2016-17, but alterations could be considered based on elementary and middle school changes.

Following the end of the feedback/comment period Monday, staffers will work up a second draft of a redistricting plan and present it to the school board Oct. 8.
