Forsyth County will get improved ambulance coverage, but those using the service will pay more under a revised agreement with the county’s ambulance provider, Central Emergency Medical Services. Under the deal chosen from three potential fee structures, the service will provide eight ambulances in 2018 compared to seven in 2017 with a 9th and 10th being added as needed at no additional cost to the county.
The subsidy the county gives the service drops from around $1.3 million last year to $885,000 in 2018, then increases 3 percent per year through the agreement stretching through 2023.
Those needing an ambulance will now pay a $1,025 trip charge and $16.89 per mile, with those numbers jumping 3 percent a year through the life of the agreement. The 2017 charge was $775 and $10 per mile.
