Recognizing Forsyth County’s preparedness for severe weather, the National Weather Service has re-designated the county as a StormReady Community.

Forsyth has 17 outdoor severe-weather sirens, to be sounded in the event of a tornado warning; and offers to sign up residents for weather alerts by telephone, emails and/or text messages.

To earn the StormReady rating, a community must have a local, 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center, more than one way to receive severe weather warnings and forecasts and to alert the public and the ability to monitor local weather conditions.

Public readiness seminars, a formal hazardous weather plan, severe weather spotter training and emergency weather exercises also are required.
